Running for research

Almost 620 people took part in the Cancer Research UK 10K run around the scenic grounds of Kingston Lacy and are expected to have raised a total of £60,000 for Cancer Research UK.

A total of 34 events take place across the UK, hopefully raising at least £3.8 million for the charity.

Ed Gibbs of Sherborne took first place in 41 minutes who, together with girlfriend Aimee Deeney, was running for Aimee's dad who has recovered from cancer.

The pair raised a total of £100 between them.

Event organiser Christina Tomlinson praised the runners for the great turnout despite the unpleasant weather.

She said: "It was a very wet day for it but the atmosphere was really good and most runners were there despite the rain and wind.

"Without these runners we wouldn't be able to fund the life changing work we do which is why it is so vital that any money raised is sent straight back to us."
