RICHARD Pordum was left with a smile and costly bill for a new mobile phone after a dramatic bass battle on Bournemouth Beach.

Pordum, a 33-year-old fitter from Bournemouth, had cast a whole mackerel bait into the surf before briefly turning his back to bait another trace when the 10-15 monster put in an appearance.

When Pordum glanced back at his rod he was shocked to see it dancing across the waves into the briney.

And by the time he had caught up with it he was standing up to his neck in water!

After a long good tussle the specimen bass was eventually heaved up the beach despite Pordum getting drenched to the skin and getting a waterlogged phone for his troubles.
