CLOTHES and accessories may have been the focus of London Fashion Week but if you want an insight into next season's looks, the catwalk is The Place to pick up hot new beauty trends.
Make-up artists spent the week plucking, preening and beautifying models to make them runway ready.
This year, MAC have worked on 37 shows, collaborating with designers to show off their clothes to maximum effect and setting new trends for spring/summer '08 in the process.
Lesley Anne Keane, MAC senior artist says: "We've seen natural beauty on the catwalks - lashes, brows, lips - just make-up that's very sexy and feminine. It's very much about the make-up complementing the clothes, rather than theatrical looks.
"There was a lot of contouring around the nose and eyes, and metallics on the eyes."
Lesley, who used her magic make-up brushes at the likes of Marios Schwab and Nicole Fahri, gives her insider knowledge on the catwalk looks you can recreate.
SKIN
Models may not need a lot of work on their faces but there's been a big emphasis on that "just got back from a health spa" pampered skin, according to Lesley.
"The main thing we've really been focusing on is grooming the face - curling lashes, making sure brows are perfect and putting make-up where it's needed to make things look natural as opposed to made-up'," she explains.
BROWS
When Peaches Geldof made her LFW catwalk debut as a model for PPQ, it was the 18-year-old's dramatic brows that caused a storm amongst the fashion pack. Lesley predicts that brows will be big news for spring. "Brows are much bigger, darker and groomed," she says.
EYES
Make the most of dramatic colour for the upcoming party season - the look for spring will be muted or metallic, according to Lesley.
"Key looks for eyes have largely been metallics, either in silver, pewter or gold," she reveals.
"We used a yellow gold at Marios Schwab. We layered powder over cream to give a rich metallic texture and went from lashline to brow to go big on colour and shape.
"Grey has been big on the catwalks this spring. I used a pale grey mascara on the models and a pigeon grey pencil."
LIPS
Always follow the key make-up rule, place emphasis on eyes or lips - but never both. If you want to work that pout, Lesley has this tip for next season's new look: "Orange is the new red!
"At Nicole Farhi, we used a lipstick called Lady Danger, which is a twist on the classic red lips.
"It's an orangey-red but we were patting it down to keep it quite matte and blended down. It's a nice twist for summer because it's not too full-on and theatrical."
Orangey-red was also a theme on the John Rocha catwalk where dramatic glitter eyelids led the look.
CHEEKS
Throw out that bronzer and blusher and make way for a more natural look on those cheeks next season. Glamorous gloss was used to highlight models sleek, sculpted cheekbones for an effortless summer face.
Lesley says: "We've been highlighting cheeks with texture. Gloss on the cheekbone, rather than shimmer. For colour, pinching the cheeks can create a natural flush of colour."
Cheeks on the models of Danielle Scutt were super glossy
