After all these years she still marches for causes - she just goes to bed earlier...
Julie Felix was the tireless epitome of the Vietnam era anti-war and state oppression protest singer, and with this defiantly titled Forever Young tour she clearly brought back a lot of memories for her enthusiastic audience. With her long, sleek hair, she was just as we remembered, and her passion for individualism and freedom hasn't faded either - and remains just as relevant.
With her melodic voice accompanied by two acoustic guitars, she sanG her old favourites in both English and Spanish - her Mexican father actually was a Los Angeles Mariachi musician. Numbers from her inspirational idols included Bob Dylan's Chimes Of Freedom and Blowing In The Wind - brought up to date with disparaging reference to Bush and Blair - the legendary Woody Guthrie's haunting Deportees, and one of Leonard Cohen's more cheerful numbers, Hallelujah.
Among her own perceptive compositions was the lilting love song Till Now, Children Of Abraham with its appeal for universal brotherhood, Earth, Air and Water, which proclaimed her affinity with the natural world, and There's A Witch In Every Woman, tongue in cheek of course, but enchantingly apt.
