AN armoured tank rolled over the front of a car, completely crushing it, but miraculously the driver was able to walk away shocked but uninjured.

The accident happened on the C13 Higher Shaftesbury Road between Blandford and Shaftesbury on Tuesday at 9.15am.

The army vehicle, a tracked personnel carrier from Warminster, Wiltshire, had been travelling north on driver training and contained the driver and several army personnel.

The driver was also said to be shocked but uninjured.

The other vehicle, a white Citroen BX five door saloon car driven by a 42-year-old Blandford man, had been travelling south.

The debris meant the road had to be closed to traffic at the accident site near the cemetery at Melbury Abbas and diversions were set up.

Dorset Police said the Citroen was a write-off and it had to be recovered from the scene.

The army sent their own personnel to recover their vehicle.

The local authority was called in to sweep the road of debris and glass and the road was reopened to traffic at 10.35am.
