BASHLEY assistant boss Eddie Harper believes ex-Cherries striker Dave Town has given his side "an extra dimension".

Town, who scored two goals in 66 appearances for AFC Bournemouth - 52 as a substitute - from 1994 to 1999, has already netted twice for Bash in four matches.

He joined the BGB Southern League Premier Division title challengers from Bognor Regis at the beginning of October.

And the 30-year-old has made a big impression on Harper and Recreation Ground manager Steve Riley.

Harper, whose side entertain Leyton in the FA Trophy second qualifying round on Saturday (3pm), said: "We've told Dave we're looking for goals, it's as simple as that.

"That's what we want our forwards to do. But what he also does well is create goals.

"Dave has a lovely touch and sets up goals. He draws in defenders and gives us an extra dimension with his passing.

"Richard Gillespie and Ryan Moss are like rabbits, they can make runs all day, but you need something different at times.

"Dave has a lot of league experience with Bournemouth, Rushden and Diamonds and Boston.

"That sort of experience helps us, and picking out passes like he does is a big plus."

Harper added: "We knew Dave was out of contract at Bognor, we had a bit of an injury crisis with six players out and were desperately short up front.

"We had Richard and Ryan and needed another body, and Dave came in and gives us another option.

"He has done well since he joined us and he played up front in his more natural position at Yate on Tuesday.

"We went 2-0 up inside two minutes and his was a delightful goal.

"He waited for the goalkeeper to commit himself and lobbed it over him.

"It was sublime and one of those special moments you love to see."
