POOLE residents are being urged to be on their guard against bogus callers after a distraction burglary at the home of an 82-year-old woman.
Two men in yellow safety jackets called on the victim at her home in Plantation Road, Canford Heath, around midday last Tuesday (October 30).
They claimed to be working on outside drains, and told her they were looking into a problem and needed to test her water supply.
After they left she noticed a quantity of cash was missing. It was reported to police later that day by a neighbour.
The two men police want to speak to are described as white, between 30 and 40 and of stocky build.
Officers have been making house to house investigations and searching the victim's home for forensic evidence.
A Dorset Police spokesman said householders should be wary of accepting the ID of callers at face value.
He added: "If in any doubt they should contact the company the caller claims to be from via their entry in the phone directory rather than using a number provided by the caller."
Anyone with information should contact Dorset Police on 01202 222 222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
