The new state-of-the-art waterpark set to be built near Bournemouth Airport is scheduled to open in 2023 despite not yet making a formal presentation to BCP Council.
Elysium Water Park UK have plans for a £75m aqua park and spa which could be a “worldwide attraction” and could create 500 jobs.
The project will combine a huge tropical indoor park with an outdoor park and the footprints of the scheme could be up to 75 acres.
The businessman behind the project, Costa Acodrinesei, said the park could attract anything between 576,000 to 923,000 people annually.
Elysium’s website claims the waterpark will be “the most extraordinary, luxurious and largest indoor waterpark in the United Kingdom.”
Daily Echo previously reported that Mr Acodrinesei said the scheme had a huge environmental dimension on the lines of the Therme Bucharest park which has 500 palm trees, 3,000 exotic shrubs and 800,000 tropical plants.
The scheme does still face significant hurdles, however, as the proposed area is in the green belt and near a site of special scientific interest.
The initial finance has not yet been raised although a number of significant investors are said to be considering the project including a major bank.
A business plan is not yet in place, the scheme does not have planning consent and Mr Acodrinesei has not yet been able to make a formal presentation to BCP councillors.
Another major obstacle is the infrastructure around Hurn, already hugely congested on a daily basis.
It's unlikely the scheme would be given the go-ahead without major road improvements in place first and it isn't clear where the money for this would come from.
Costa Acodrinesei said: "At the minute, certainty is not there.
"We have talked to the council and expressed our opinion but we have not formally applied for planning permission yet.
"It is not possible to talk without certainty."
