A GROUP claims the council is guilty of "computer generated chaos" after different deadlines were given to submit views on contentious plans to build a Waitrose supermarket in Wimborne.

Keep Wimborne Town Green members spotted that yellow signs near the town's cricket ground said the public had until November 21 to make their feelings known about the plan.

But the display of the plans at Allendale House and other venues runs until November 30, and officers said they would accept representations until that date.

Keep Wimborne Town Green members are re-emphasising the need for a public meeting to discuss the plans for the town's cricket ground before any decision is made and believe the deadline should be extended until December 7.

Chairman Philip Atlay said: "A deadline of November 30 is too short a period for such a contentious application but November 21 is completely unacceptable."

East Dorset District Council officials said the deadline on the yellow signs had been automatically created by a computer and could not be altered from giving 21 days notice.

But the deadline of November 30 will stand, as given in the public notice printed in the Echo and given in a letter to residents who have previously expressed an interest in the proposal.

The display of plans will continue at Allendale House until November 30 and the plans are also on view at the council's Furzehill offices.

Mike Hirsh, head of planning and building control at East Dorset District Council, said: "The November 30 date has been carefully considered by officers as being an appropriate period to receive representations on this application. To date, over 70 letters of repres-entation have already been received from members of the public."

The council has not yet organised a public meeting to discuss the plans.
