Bournemouth Symphony Chorus, Lighthouse, Poole
FEW will forget The Concert for Peace presented by the BSC under the command of Greg Beardsell, marshalling their full complement together with the Bournemouth Symphony Youth Chorus magnificently accompanied by the Dorset Youth Orchestra.
Karl Jenkins has found the key to general appeal in his musical idiom. And in his widely acclaimed The Armed Man; a Mass for Peace, the militaristic power and touching humanity went hand-in-hand with the archive film.
The performance here ranks among their finest, solos from Matilda Locke, trumpet and Rosi Brewster, cello were memorable as was Housam Housami making the evocative Call to Prayer.
I doubt if the BSC has been called to sing in the Tongan tongue before but they coped superbly in David Fanshaw's wildly exciting Pacific Song to the accompaniment of Susan Milan, flute, Backbeat percussion trio, Chris Dowie, piano and Geth Griffiths, bass.
Reconciliation, a setting of Goeth's poem by Richard Blackford, sung in German, offered a contrite sincerity.
