SHORE anglers continue to locate some fine bass with Rod Heath from Poole the latest to strike lucky when he targeted the Sandbanks section where he landed a number of quality fish. The best tipped the scales to 9-13.

Using a combination of mackerel and frozen lugworm Heath, who is a local window fitter, went on to beach a 7-3 bass along with a number of smaller fish.

All were weighed, photographed and verified at Wessex Angling Centre.

POPPY APPEAL BOOST The big hearted anglers who entered the Hamworthy RBL Poppy open shore competition, held along the shores of Poole harbour between Baiter and Rockley, raised £350 for the appeal. Fishing was good with Andy Carter winning the top prize after landing a 3-4 bass, which was the day's heaviest fish, along with a small flounder together totalling 4-1.

Nick Bainton, a member of Poole Dolphins SFC, was runner-up with 3-2 followed by Roy Lockyer (3-1), Pete Ridout (3-0), Dave Johnson (2-12) and Alan Rogerson (2-11). The junior section was won by Shane Hunter with a 15.5oz silver eel.

FLOUNDER ACTION The third round of the Wessex Angling Centre senior flounder league produced a win for Gordon McLellan with a solitary flattie weighing 2-0, which also won him the pool for the heaviest fish.

Nick Bainton was second for the second consecutive match with 1-15 followed by Vernon Allen, Pete Christopher, Brian Fisk and Mike Carter.

A Wessex Angling junior flounder league fixture produced a win for 14-year-old Sam O'Shea with a 1-7 flattie followed by Marcus Christopher (1-3) and Scott Smith with 8.75oz.

ROVERS RETURNS Sole and bass supplied limited action during the Rovers midweek pegged catch and release open held along the Sealife section at Southsea where Mick Goodger won the total length section with 85cm followed by Steve Carter 82cm and Dave Edwards with 79cm.

Dave Edwards won the pool for the longest fish with a 50cm sole followed by Mick Goodger with a 38cm bass and Steve Carter with a 30cm sole.

CHRISTMAS OPEN Boscombe and Southbourne SFC stage their Christmas Fayre open shore competition at Avon Beach on December 2 with fishing from 5pm to 9pm. Tickets have been set at £6 plus pools. There will also be a two-man team event.

SAVIN'S SUCCESS The second round of the Christchurch Angling Centre Tuesday Evening Open League held at Steamer Point attracted 33 competitors who returned a smattering of sole, dogfish, pout and whiting to the scales.

Glyn Savin won the event with 2-0. Included in his catch was a 1-5 dogfish that won him the prize for the heaviest round fish.

Others: 2 Pete Miles 1-14, 3 Malcolm Stote 1-13, 4 Alex Roland 1-12, 5 Shaun Seabright 1-11.

The pool for the heaviest flatfish was won by Lin Moore with a 13.25oz sole.
