DORSET’S newest pub has opened its doors following an extensive £2 million refurbishment.
The Bear of Burton, named in a nod to former Burton resident and author of Goldilocks & The Three Bears, Robert Southey, opened on Thursday March 12 and has received high praise from local residents.
Formerly known as The Manor, the former listed building, situated in Burton on the outskirts of Christchurch, was acquired by Fuller’s in 2017 and after three year's work, celebrated its opening with a launch party attracting 120 people.
Tania Cook, Manager of The Bear of Burton said: “The anticipation around the launch has been building for weeks and we are thrilled to have had so many visits, calls and enquiries already; we couldn't have wished for a better or more positive response.
“The new Bear of Burton is truly stunning and offers exceptional food and service. I am so excited for everyone to discover us and all that we have to offer, and I have no doubt we will soon be a firm favourite with people across Dorset and beyond.”
The restaurant boasts a new menu, designed by new Head Chef David Basher, containing a core menu with pub classics as well as different signature dishes available every day.
The Bear’s horseshoe bar based in the centre of the restaurant features wide range of spirits, craft beers, and cocktails, along with an extensive wine list with a Coravin wine system allowing fine wines to be drunk by the glass.
The Bear of Burton is also home to 10 Beautiful Bedrooms, all individually designed and with subtle nods to the Goldilocks story.
Mayor of Christchurch Cllr Lesley Dedman said: “At a time when all too many pubs are sadly closing, for Fuller’s to make such an investment and commitment to this community was extremely welcome.
“I was delighted to be invited to experience the transformation for myself and the results are beautiful. This is a real asset to the local area and I hope it will be enjoyed by many for years to come.”
