Bouncers, Lighthouse, Poole

When John Godber's Bouncers made its debut at the Edinburgh Fringe a little over 30 years ago, it got off to what looked like an inauspicious start.

The audience consisted of just two people - a drunk and a theatre critic.

While the critic got up and left, the drunk staggered on to the stage and tried to join in.

And there you have it.

Bouncers' enduring strength is that it explores the all-too-recognisable lowlights of British club culture - the drunkenness, the drugs, the reckless sex, the vomit and the violence.

The music and fashions may have changed since the disco boom of the late seventies, but the same mindless hedonism continues to thrive in these binge-drinking, liver-damaged days of the early 21st century, Bouncers explores a night on the town and will instantly speak to anyone who has ever drunk too much and set foot on a dancefloor.

It is brillantly told through four nightclub bouncers played by actors Marc Bolton, Mathew Booth, Jack Brady and James Hornsby.

They also play the clubbers - male and female and it's superb and skilful observational comedy.

Bouncers plays Lighthouse until Saturday.
