SOUTH Western Ambulance Service says it has been approached by "many volunteers" offering to help through the coronavirus outbreak.
These volunteers include current and former members of staff, and members of the public.
While some ambulance providers have asked for military assistance, South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWAFT) has not done this.
A SWAFT spokesman said: "We have been approached by many volunteers, current and former members of staff, and members of the public offering to help us continue to provide our service to our patients, for which we are extremely grateful.
"We have had a number of opportunities for people to engage with us including make ready operatives and call handlers, and are asking that they visit NHS jobs to register their interest in these opportunities.
“We are working within Government guidelines and training is being provided for any roles to ensure the continued safety of our volunteers, staff and patients.
“Thank you to all our staff and volunteers for their tireless work during this time.
"We would urge everyone to follow the government guidelines – stay home, protect the NHS and save lives.”
