BOURNEMOUTH in Bloom has announced that it still aims to hold its annual garden competitions, even though its current programme of events has been cancelled because of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Usually, a group of judges tour the area to assess and photograph the entries but this year, it has been decided that instead, people can send a photograph of their garden my email or post.

The competition is open to everyone, not just members of Bournemouth In Bloom.

Chris Colledge, chairman of Bournemouth In Bloom, said: “Bournemouth in Bloom is aware of the very challenging circumstances for everyone.

“We completely understand that people will find it more difficult than usual to purchase plants and our thoughts are very much with the Plant Nurseries and Garden Centres that are affected by COVID-19.

“The competition is about encouraging everyone in the enjoyment and pleasure of gardening and most especially about community growth.”

A condition of entry is that you are expected to attend, or send a representative, to the Bournemouth in Bloom Presentation Evening on Wednesday October 21 at 7pm which is to be held at the Bournemouth West Cliff Hotel.

Entries can be sent, by the end of July, to our BIB secretary Jane Kelly at janekelly3951@gmail.com or you can submit a print by post to Cllr. Jane Kelly, 22 Sanderling Court, 10a Boscombe Spa Road, Bournemouth, BH5 1BH.

Entries for each category should be accompanied by one landscape photograph that can be submitted online or by post.
