KEEPING yourself entertained while in self-isolation or quarantine can be extremely difficult.
However, it can be the perfect time to learn a new skill or pick up an old hobby.
Poole-based fine artist Jason Anderson is encouraging those stuck in isolation (especially adults) to pick up a pen, pencil and piece of paper and get sketching.
Despite specialising in fine art painting, Jason always starts his pieces with a sketch to help get his creative juices flowing.
He explained: "I recommend starting with a sketch as you can control the drawing. With sketches, you are not bound to reality and they stop you focusing on the detail. The brain fills in the gaps."
Sketching doesn't require specific tools, it can be done with pencils, charcoals, crayons and various pens such as a BIC or biro.
If you choose to use something other than a pencil and happen to make a mistake, Jason emphasises the importance of utilising any errors within your piece.
He said: "Mistakes help you to turn your sketch into something else. Use what tools make you comfortable."
Being creative, particularly during a pandemic, and trying a new skill is hugely important to Jason.
He explained: "Creativity can help take people's minds off coronavirus and they can become immersed in it. Being creative is massively important. People can share drawings between each other, as well as ideas and different perspectives."
