A BOWLS club in Poole has teamed up with their caterers to provide a ‘meals on wheels’ service for vulnerable Dorset residents isolating due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The partnership between Dolphin Indoor Bowls Club and Aston Events & Catering has quickly been established to help not only elderly club members, but friends and neighbours unable to get to the shops as they observe the strict lockdown measures to minimise the risk to their health.
Club Manager Ken Joy said: “Even though the Dolphin Indoor Bowls Club is closed to its members, we are providing the clubs kitchen free of charge for Samantha, who runs Aston Events & Catering, and her head chef Phil, to utilise to provide wholesome, home-cooked food to a growing number of elderly & vulnerable Dorset residents.”
The ‘meals on wheels’ service currently delivers freshly cooked, traditional lunch and evening meals and afternoon tea every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, but this could be increased as demand grows.
Mike, a member of Dolphin Indoor Bowls Club said: “My partner and I have been having great nutritious meals since Sam started and I know a few others that are having them all agree that they are great value at £5 each.
“She delivers to us Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays - we have not had the same meal twice yet and you also get a pudding.
“This situation is only going to get worse and anything that helps save you from going out has got to be good.”
