AN ACTIVITY centre in the New Forest has been given permission to build a new climbing tower.
The proposals to replace the existing piece of equipment at Avon Tyrrell Activity Centre, near Bransgore, were approved by the New Forest National Park Authority (NPA).
The new tower will 1.5 metres lower in height overall and made from timber with a composite roof.
A report from an NPA planning officer said it would incorporate a viewing and landing platform near the top with a pitched roof over.
It added: "The site is already used for recreational purposes, and this additional facility would not materially increase the level of activity associated with this part of the site, or of the Avon Tyrrell site overall."
A statement submitted as part of the application by centre operators UK Youth says: "The proposed replacement climbing tower is necessary to the modernisation and improved safety of visitor activities at the site and the ongoing operation of the activity centre site.
"In particular, the proposed replacement tower would be located in the same clearingand amongst mature trees and would result in less than substantial harm to the heritage assets and would have no material landscape impact."
