THOUSANDS of items from AFC Bournemouth’s Vitality Stadium have been donated to support the work of the town’s foodbank.
Former club captain and fans' favourite Ian Cox, who works in the club’s community sports trust, teamed up with club staff to clear the stadium’s bars and kiosks on Tuesday morning.
All perishable goods that had been stocked for use up until the summer, including soft drinks, crisps and chocolate bars were gathered up for delivery to Bournemouth Foodbank, who will use the goods to support people in the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Paul Fudge, the club’s head of catering operations, told the club’s website: “We have seen how the pandemic has affected the lives of people across the world.
“With no games being played for the foreseeable future, we had plenty of food items left in the stadium. I’m glad they will now go to those who need them most.
“This club has always been based around the community. Even more so at this time, we will do our best to help those in need in the local area.”
Cherries had already donated 250 Easter eggs to the foodbank, which were originally intended for an Easter Fun Day that was cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
