A COUPLE from Ferndown donated over 200 Easter eggs and hot cross buns to Bournemouth, Poole and Wimborne Hospitals over the Easter weekend.
Summer Abrahams and her partner Ashley have dedicated the last few weeks to purchasing and delivering Easter treats to local hospitals, which were then distributed in the coronavirus wards for staff.
Every day after work, Summer stopped at her local shop and queued to buy bags full of small and large Easter eggs and hot cross buns for NHS staff on the frontline.
These goodies were then delivered by Summer and Ashley on April 11 so staff could enjoy them just in time for Easter.
Summer explained her inspiration: "We know how hard the medical staff are working at the moment and it may not be much, but we wanted to lift their spirits and give them something to enjoy on their break. It shows that people on the outside are thinking of them.
"We requested that the treats go to the coronavirus wards in the hospitals as they are working really long hours. We also dropped a box of treats off at the children's ward in Poole Hospital too. This is not something we will be able to do forever, but we want to do it."
Despite buying over 400 sweet treats for hardworking NHS staff, the price is little for Summer and Ashley compared to what NHS staff are enduring.
Summer said: "In this situation, the price doesn't matter. We wanted to make sure they had something nice to enjoy."
The pair have also been keeping themselves busy by donating treats and essential food items to their local community too.
Summer and Ashley have given chocolates to bin men and postmen, as well as leaving a 'surprise hamper' of chocolates at their friend's house for the children to find at Easter.
Their efforts have also been reflected in local foodbanks and homeless shelters were they have donated and delivered much-needed supplies.
Summer said: "I have been working with Kinson and West Howe Foodbank for four to five years, meaning I have connections in various supermarkets. A supermarket phoned Ashley and I to let us know they had some perishable goods which we could donate to the foodbank and homeless shelter.
"They desperately need people's help at this time."
Summer and Ashley's busy week doesn't stop there, as Summer is set to bake two large cakes for local NHS hospital staff which will be delivered this weekend.
Summer also plans to continue their efforts once lockdown restrictions have eased and hopefully lifted.
She explained: "As soon as this is over, I will be straight back to helping the foodbank with more collections. I'm pretty exhausted from this week, but it's great knowing that people have received good food."
