A VOLUNTEER network has been set up in Wimborne Minster to help vulnerable residents during the coronavirus pandemic.

Councillor Shane Bartlett has organised the group with colleague Maria Roe and the town council

Cllr Bartlett said: “The intention is that we might identify vulnerable residents who need help and support during this pandemic and who have not already been picked up by other agencies such as Dorset Council and local GP surgeries.

“Leaflets with further information and contact details for local volunteers have been distributed to households in the Wimborne Minster area.

“I would like to request that we continue to be mindful of elderly and vulnerable relatives and neighbours and that we do what we can to help them through this uncertain time.”

Cllr Roe said: “Delivering a leaflet to almost 4,000 homes would be daunting if it weren’t for the tremendous support of volunteers.

“Daily, as part of their permitted exercise, a team of volunteers have helped enormously to ensure that we get the message out that this community really cares.”

Information about the Wimborne community resilience support group is also available to view on the town council’s noticeboards as well as the website and social media.

The Group has been registered with Dorset Council, the Volunteer Centre Dorset and www.helpandkindness.co.uk

The volunteers have already begun to take calls from vulnerable residents and have fulfilled requests for food shopping and collected prescriptions.
