DAYTRIPPERS from Lincolnshire were sent packing after travelling hundreds of miles to Dorset at the weekend.

The visitors were located in the Purbeck area by Dorset Police officers on Sunday.

Armed response vehicle officers patrolled the area’s beauty spots, in particular Lulworth and Durdle Door, to ensure people are complying with the government restrictions.

A spokesperson for Purbeck Police said officers also discovered visitors from London who were sent away.

Under the current government regulations, people should only leave home to work if they cannot do so from their home, for daily exercise, shopping for necessities and for a medical need or to perform care.

As reported in the Daily Echo on Saturday, The National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) and College of Policing (CoP) have issued new advice for forces across the country.

The document, titled “what constitutes a reasonable excuse to leave the place where you live”, lists driving to the countryside for a walk as “reasonable” if “far more time” is spent walking than driving.

However, Dorset Police said it is not changing its advice on travelling and people should continue to exercise near their homes.
