A MUSICIAN, who plied his trade at music college in Bournemouth, is helping to produce the score for a multi-million-pound cinematic blockbuster starring Rachael Weisz.

Chris Mears, who sings vocals and plays the guitar with his band Volunteer, can thank his friend and former fellow band member Nathan Johnson, for his chance to make a contribution to the big screen.

Nathan, who played with Chris in Cinematic Underground while the pair lived together in Alum Chine, has stayed in touch with his old pal and the pair hope to make music together before the film is released some time next year.

They had already collaborated on the Sundance Film Festival award-winning high school detective film Brick, which was written and directed by Nathan's cousin Rian.

They played together at the Red Rock Festival in the states where they supported The Fray.

Chris, 29, who studied at Knighton Heath Music Centre, part of Poole and Bournemouth College, is hoping their creative collaboration will produce similar results.

He explained: "Nathan is producing the Volunteers' album Remote Control Parade, which is almost complete, so we have that work to do but we are also going to be working on the soundtrack for The Brothers Bloom, which is an independently funded film.

"We are hoping to finish the score before the New Year. Basically Nathan has been working on the score and I am being paid to offer some ideas to add some guitar here or there and some sound affects."

Filming has already finished on the £20 million film, which is about two con artists who hope to do one more job by conning eccentric millionaire Penelope, played by Weisz.

Actor Robbie Coltrane also has a part in the film and Nathan himself will play a cameo role.

The rest of the story will have to wait, as Chris does not want to let the cat out of the bag.
