Principal Jeremy Payne said: “We chose this as a project for our children in the Virtual School because we wanted them to have a chance to create something important with their friends and peer group so that they could feel the connections within our community even while being separated.
“We also wanted to try and find a way to reflect the many, many voices who are supporting and cheerleading these key workers and our children jumped at the chance with energy, creativity and quite a bit of imagination. We had artwork, poetry, writing and, of course, the films.”
The school has remained open to support children of NHS staff and other keyworkers. For those now isolating in their homes and unable to attend school, teachers from the school have been setting students activities to do including creative tasks, writing tasks and maths learning.
The video was uploaded to the school’s website through its YouTube channel, where the video has been viewed over 2,000 times.
Mr Payne added: “The reaction to the film has been really heartening, with some lovely feedback direct from NHS staff who have shared it with colleagues, and it has even been posted on the screens at the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals.
“We clap for the NHS every Thursday night and we feel proud to be supporting the work that they are doing by helping to look after their children. We all think they’re amazing.”
