ON my road I see hundreds of families and people making bike journeys again due to reduced traffic, which is great for everyone.
People are working from home and not travelling. Now is an ideal time to protect these vulnerable road users. Several cities globally and some councils nationally are making Covid-based changes to the roads, like making footways wider, and claiming road space when there aren’t any pavements, in order to allow social distancing; installing cycle lanes, separate from footways and protected by cones or light segregation, and removing push-button pedestrian crossings, making auto or other interventions in order for people to not have to press.
In order to make social distancing work over time, we need these trials in BH, rather than filling the roads up with sole car occupants after lockdown. So why aren’t BCP Council making the trial road changes like other areas have?
We need them to act now on this.
