A BURGLAR who stole cigarettes and vaping fluid after breaking in through a back door at a Co-op store has been jailed for 12 weeks.

David Michael Vye, 21, of no fixed address, admitted burglary when he appeared before Poole magistrates on April 21.

The court heard that at around 6.15pm on Sunday April 19 two men were reported to be acting suspiciously at the store in Kinson Road. They were asked to leave by staff and both men complied.

Shortly afterwards, both men gained entry to the store through a restricted area at the rear of the premises and one of them took a number of items before leaving.

Vye remained at the scene and was loading goods into a bag when a staff member came across him and the defendant fled.

The men were reported to have left the scene in a vehicle.

Shortly before 6.30pm a special constable was carrying out searches for the vehicle and came across a car matching the description less than a mile away in Verney Road. He found Vye sitting in the passenger seat wearing matching clothing to one of the suspects in the burglary.

The defendant was arrested and following a search of the car items stolen during the burglary were recovered.

Police Staff Investigator Max Surman, of Dorset Police, said: “Thanks to our rapid response and searches carried out in the area, we were able to identify David Vye as one of the men involved in this burglary and bring him before the court to face justice.

“We are continuing to make enquiries in relation to the second suspect.”
