EFFORTS to prevent people from accessing a Bournemouth skate park during the coronavirus lockdown have been "very difficult".
The decision was taken by Dorset Police and BCP Council to close skate parks and playgrounds across the conurbation to help enforce social distancing.
Last week, officers from Bournemouth North Neighbourhood Policing Team taped off the facility at Slades Farm after reports of people still using the site.
In a post on Facebook, an officer from the team said: "Sadly we have taken this decision after groups of approximately 30 people were reported to be using the skate park at the same time.
"We understand that people will be upset about this action but it is for the good of everyone whilst the lockdown conditions are in place.
"We will advise when it is safe to reopen. Anyone caught using it will be issued with a warning letter."
However, residents reported seeing people back on the skate park just hours after it was taped off by police.
Over the weekend, the tape appeared to be completely removed, with several groups using the facility.
A joint statement from Dorset Police and BCP Council said: "The site at Slades Park, along with other skate parks and playgrounds, had been closed following Government advice on social distancing measures brought in to protect the NHS and ultimately save lives.
"Notices were put up to this effect, but in some instances appear to have been destroyed, and will be replaced at the earliest opportunity. The site at Slades Farm is an unfenced facility and has been very difficult to enforce closure and to find suitable places to put notices.
"We are disappointed that a small element of the community have not been abiding with the need to exercise social distancing. Dorset Police and BCP Council are now in discussions to consider next steps to prevent any congregating from continuing, and to allow for people to safely exercise in a safe manner that is in line with the social distancing rules."
