THE public footpath at Sheps Hollow, Swanage will be temporarily closed due to a landslip making the steps and boardwalk unstable.
The closure will come into place on May 9 and last for six months. There is no alternative route.
A statement on the Swanage Town Council website said: “All pedestrians will be prohibited from proceeding along part of the public footpath 17, a distance of approximately 30 metres.
“The order is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations, which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users.
“Any person who uses or permits the use of the footpath in contravention of the order will be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding £1000.”
