APPLAUSE rang out across Dorset once again last night as Dorset residents showed their appreciation for key workers.
People all over the county took to their doorsteps to clap for NHS staff, carers and other key workers, including supermarket staff, bin men and cleaners, who are helping to keep the country running during the coronavirus pandemic.
Residents clapped, played music and banged saucepans for the sixth Clap For Our Carers.
The event, which takes place every Thursday at 8pm, has become a weekly highlight giving communities the chance to come together despite social distancing.
Tammy Roscoe, who lives in Fitzpain Road in Ferndown, said: “Our neighbours have been brilliant, young and old have all been out there every week at 8pm, clapping, banging saucepans, we’ve had whistles, fireworks, blaring music and one of the neighbours put his blue Christmas lights up and shone them for the NHS at 8pm on a Thursday.
“Usually we live in quite a quiet cul-de-sac where most people keep themselves to themselves, it’s the only time we all seem to have come together as a whole.”
In Merley, Tanya Shore’s seven-year-old Olivia celebrated for key workers by riding up and down the street on her bike which she decorated with colourful flags.
Meanwhile in Poole, police officers attended Birds Hill Nursing home where they clapped outside for carers.
We've been clapping every Thursday at 8pm to recognise the extraordinary work of our NHS, key workers and care professionals.
