The major coastal cliff works taking place at Southbourne in 1960 to help protect the cliffs against erosion along with the local council adopted a policy of purchasing the houses on the cliff top and flatten them to make it amenity land. The Southbourne Coast Road had not yet been created but this was part of the council’s future plans.
