A BURGLAR who smashed his way into a chemist to steal drugs and razor blades was caught as he tried to get away via a fire escape.
Patrol crews and police dog handlers were alerted at 4.30am today to a raid at Rowlands Pharmacy in Parkstone Road, Poole.
Officers surrounded the building within minutes of receiving a 999 call and a man was arrested as he tried to escape.
A spokesman for Poole police said police dog Rebel searched the building to ensure no one else was present and added: "We just feel so sorry for the staff who have a lot of glass to clear up."
A 24-year-old Poole man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and is being questioned by officers.
The pharmacy will be open for business as usual today.
