AN unexploded bomb was detonated on Bournemouth beach this afternoon.
A 50-metre cordon was in place near Alum Chine before bomb disposal officers arrived on the scene and detonated the device.
A police spokesman said: "At 12.56pm on Wednesday, December 2, Dorset Police received a report that old ordnance had been dug up during work at the beach in Bournemouth in the area of Alumhurst Road.
"A 50m cordon has been put in place for the safety of members of the public.
"The EOD (explosive ordnance disposal) has been notified and will be attending the location."
The cordon was lifted at around 4pm.
