A TOTAL of 25,000 shop jobs are set to be axed after the collapse of the Arcadia group of stores and the end of a rescue bid for Debenhams.
Debenhams has already cut 6,500 jobs across its operation due to heavy cost-cutting after it entered administration for the second time in 12 months.
Debenhams’ Bournemouth shop has been a fixture in the town since 1915, when the purpose-built store opened as Bobby & Co.
The Bobby & Co stores later became part of the Debenhams group and the Bournemouth store was rebranded in 1972 during a ceremony presided over by disc late disc jockey Terry Wogan.
The pictures in the gallery above show Debenhams and Bobby & Co through the years.
