A FUMING customer who was asked to leave a pet store after refusing to wear a mask returned moments later and headbutted a member of staff.

This "frightening incident" unfolded at Pets Corner, Somerford Road, Christchurch, after staff asked a customer to put on a face covering.

The man became verbally abusive, staff say, and refused to put on a mask or leave the shop when asked.

At this point other shop staff became involved, and the man eventually left the store and walked off to his parked car.

One Pets Corner worker remained at the door of the store to ensure he left.

However, moments later the raging man returned and headbutted the staff member standing in the doorway. The victim sustained bruising to his eye.

The attack took place in September, but officers have now released a CCTV image of someone they want to speak with in connection with the incident.

Police community support investigator Kate Hann, of Christchurch Police, said: "This was a frightening incident for the members of staff who were working on the day.

“I appreciate that this incident took place in September, but we have been following a number of lines of enquiries to try and identify the person responsible.

“My investigation is continuing and I am now in a position to release a CCTV image of the suspect.

“I would ask anyone who recognises him to please get in contact with Dorset Police.”

The initial incident took place around 3pm on Friday, September 4, 2020.
