THE rolling infection rate of coronavirus in the BCP Council area has more than doubled from last week, data shows.
An interactive map on the government website uses data from Public Health England and shows a growth in cases across some parts of the county.
It grades Middle layer Super Output Areas (MSOAs) on the severity of their rolling rate with places seeing the highest number of infections coloured purple, known as 'hotspots'.
The latest infection rate across BCP was 145.7 per 100,000, with 576 cases confirmed in the seven days leading up to December 17.
The week before, leading up to December 9, the rolling rate stood at 67.5 per 100,000, with 267 cases confirmed.
Breaking it down into smaller areas, Boscombe West had the highest rolling rate across the conurbation with 403.9 cases per 100,000 in the week leading up to December 17.
Winton had a rate of 240.4 per 100,000, with 23 cases confirmed, Bearwood had a rate of 254.8 per 100,000.
At the other end of the scale, Poole Town recorded eight cases and had a rate of 67.1. East Southbourne had six cases and a rate of 72.6 and East Howe also had nine cases, with a rate of 108.8 per 100,000 people.
Despite this, however, the BCP Council area as a whole remained well below the UK average.
Dorset Council’s rate had also increased, from 44.6 on December 9, to 74 a week later when 280 cases were recorded.
Sturminster Marshall had the highest rate of 243.7, with 15 cases recorded.
Wimborne had a rate of 91.2, West Moors’ rate was 39.4 and Bere Regis had a rate of 50.7.
Blandford Forum recorded less than three cases meaning the rate wasn’t available.
