BOSCOMBE residents have been sharing why the area is such a great place to live and visit
It comes after Boscombe was named one of the worst places to live in the UK.
However, there's a lot to be proud of. Here’s what our readers said.
It had lots of great places to eat and drink
Boscanova, Chaplins, The Firkin Shed, Little Pickle Deli Café and Urban Reef are among the places that come highly recommended to grab a bite to eat or enjoy a drink.
Its entertainment venues
If you’re after live entertainment, there’s a lot on your doorstep. The Shelley Theatre, 02 Academy Bournemouth and Chaplins offer music and stage in abundance. Some of the biggest names in music have graced the stage at the 02 including Jeff Beck, Queens of the Stone Age, Roger Daltrey, Ed Sheeran and Florence and the Machine.
In its former life as Starkers Royal Ballroom, it even hosted Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Thin Lizzy and Fleetwood Mac.
AFC Bournemouth
It’s home to AFC Bournemouth and who wouldn’t be proud of that?
The sense of community
One person said: “I love the market, coffee shops and the overall vibe in the precinct, everyone says hello and loves a good natter. Really good community vibe. My daughter is in a lovely little church school where she is really valued, and the school is next to a great park with a cheap but quality cafe that also love the community.”
The beach and pier
Boscombe has its own pier and is a great place to people watch and take in the view.
As one person said; "Boscombe pier is beautiful", and who can argue with that?
And here are some more things people said:
1. AFC Bournemouth, the superb Boscanova, the amazing Cellar Bar, the Firkin Shed (some of the best kept beer in the UK), Boscombe Salvation Army band, all the small independent shops and the sea front.
2. We live in Pokesdown and often visit the cliff top/beach for a long walk. Beautiful views, we are very lucky to have it all on our doorstep. Also Kings Park and the mighty Cherries.
3. Real music, raw nightlife, best smoothies, vegan cafes, amazing kebab houses, tons of charity shops, gorgeous beach, and colourfully weird people. It's great.
4. I've lived in Boscombe for the past 6 years, have chosen to do so and love it, yeah it has it's problems that really need addressing but expect half of you people slagging the place off haven't even set foot in it. Bournemouth town centre, Lansdowne and Triangle all have the same problems if not worse and I personally feel safer here than any of those areas of Bournemouth. We have some brilliant pubs and restaurants, naming Chaplin's as one of the best bars in the area, I've had some of my best nights out at the O2, the beach is so much nicer than Bournemouth, loads of outdoor spaces, and have you seen the architecture here? Stunning.
5. Bosconova is the best place to get breakfast.. the beach and pier area. Urban Reef and the local surf shops.
6. I think by the seafront is lovely! I love the pier and watching the surfers. I also like the gardens and the mini golf. Yes the town centre can be a bit dodgy but there are nice parts.
7. The O2, AFC Bournemouth, if you are able-bodied the Cellar bar, The crooked book (fantastic second hand bookshop and cafe) and the little pickle cafe. Shelley Park is beautiful as are the overcliff gardens and the Shelley theatre is an asset.
