Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council has put out a new, stronger social media message as the county enters the second weekend of national lockdown.
Posting it on its Instagram Story, the authority has warned: "Coronavirus: If you go out, you can spread it. People will die."
The council says the warning is part of a new, harder-hitting Government initiative which has also been sent to other councils across the country, although neighbouring Hampshire County Council, Wiltshire Council, and Southampton City Council have yet to use it.
In a statement, the council said: "This is government provided digital content.
"We along with all councils, have been using artwork and other content provided by the govt throughout the pandemic.
"This particular one was released on January 11 as part of the current Government campaign.
"All councils have a statutory duty to warn and inform during crises, and for Covid that includes doing all we can to amplify govt and public health messages.
"We know it’s hard hitting, but If it causes one person to reconsider and stay home instead of go out unnecessarily, that could be a decision that breaks the infection chain and saves a life."
On its the website, the council has also placed a big "Stay at home" message, along with the hashtag #doyourbit.
