A ROAD in Bournemouth town centre is closed to traffic due to emergency water main works.
Westover Road is shut with a diversion in place and it set to remain blocked off until the start of next week.
Bournemouth Water was alerted to a leak on the morning of Thursday, February 11, and engineers launched repair work.
The road is closed to all vehicles, excepts buses and deliver vehicles, from its junction with Bath Road to its junction with Gervis Place.
Access for emergency services will also be maintained by Bournemouth Water engineers.
A diversion route has been set up via Bath Road, St Peter's Road and Hinton Road.
BCP Council issued a temporary traffic regulation order to allow the work to be carried out on Thursday, February 11.
A Bournemouth Water spokesperson said: “We have completed an emergency repair on a leaking water main on Westover Road following reports of a leak yesterday morning (Thursday, February 11).
“In order to complete this work quickly and safely we were required to close Westover Road.
“The road will need to remain closed while the excavation site is reinstated and the road is resurfaced – which we aim to complete by Monday afternoon (February 15).
“No customer supplies were affected by this issue.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
