I VERY much support Chris Morgan’s view (Letters, Feb 13), much more should be done locally to improve conditions for walking and cycling in the area.
As a good example, one of the busiest local pathways in the town centre area, linking directly the Poole Quarter with the High Street.
As such, nothing but the best should be in place along its length.
In fact the previous Poole council, but for this stretch, did secure big improvements along much of the route.
We highlighted this stretch and its appalling condition, back in 2010 when we did a condition survey of all of the rights of way in the town centre for the then-council.
We suggested the authority and the landowner should act to the public good and make this one.
This sad condition has been evident since at least the mid 90s – that’s 25 years, a generation.
BCP Council today supports active travel, as I think has each council since the Poole Quarter was built.
The land owner, a major corporate retail trader, has an ESC policy committing near £400m pa on community projects.
One wonders what the purpose of such policies is, if such work is not pursued.
I hope you agree with us – it’s about time that these two bodies got together, resolved any differences and properly made up the path.
