THE number of people who have died after contracting coronavirus in localised areas of Dorset and the New Forest has been revealed.
The latest data released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows the location of every death where COVID-19 was the underlying (main) cause on the death certificate.
There have been a total of 122,000 deaths in the UK since the start of the pandemic and the virus has spread across the vast majority of neighbourhoods.
The data shows virus deaths that have occurred in England and Wales from March to January 2021.
Over this period, the ONS data has 224 recorded deaths involving coronavirus for Bournemouth. East Southbourne and Hengistbury Head ward had the highest number of deaths with 29, followed by Southbourne West with 20 then Kinson East with 18. Springbourne (2) and Moordown (3) had the lowest recorded number of deaths in this period.
The borough of Poole area had 268 recorded deaths involving COVID-19. Branksome Park, Canford Cliffs & Sandbanks had the most with 41. While Branksome West (2) and Hamworthy East (4) had the lowest number of deaths.
The rest of Dorset had fewer recorded deaths where coronavirus was involved, with Christchurch recording 66 deaths, East Dorset 114, West Dorset 100, Weymouth 52, Purbeck on 40 and North Dorset 59.
The New Forest reported a total of 226 deaths involving coronavirus between March and January 2021.
