A METEOR which has been described as "missile-like" triggered the motion sensor of a doorbell camera in Wimborne.
The incredible sight can be seen clearly in the video recording from camera at the front door of the house on Sunday night.
Tristan White was watching television with his fiancé Holly Mitchener in the lounge of there home in Wimborne Chase shortly before 10pm.
The couple, both 31, received a mobile phone alert which said there was motion at the front door, which Mr White said is typically a fly or spider running across the detector.
However, when he checked the video playback from the camera it captured the amazing sight of a meteor soaring across the night's sky.
Mr White told the Daily Echo: "It was absolutely crazy really. I get the notifications ping on my phone that there has been motion detected outside the front door.
"I checked it as it is sometimes quite curious to see what animals cross it, but it is normally just a fly tripping it or a spider running across it.
"It isn't the first time I have caught a shooting star on the camera but it never trips the motion detector but because it was so bright and it made that much of a difference in the frame it said motion detected.
"Looking at it I was like 'what is that'."
Many residents across the UK posted on social media on Sunday night about the meteor, with various footage of the 'fireball' shared online.
Mr White added: "I have never seen one as big as that.
"Because we are in rural Wimborne and we don't have any street lights outside, it is really nice to see the stars.
"You get the classic occasional very quick shooting star but nothing like that. It was missile-like and then flared out. We never get a meteor like that, certainly not on camera and I have never seen one in real life like that."
