A 30-YEAR-OLD Wimborne man has been arrested following a crime spree which took place across several Isle of Wight locations on Saturday,

The man was arrested on suspicion of one count of burglary and theft, one count of aggravated vehicle taking and vehicle damage and one count of criminal damage.

A transit van was stolen and dumped in Brighstone on the island on Saturday, with a property later burgled in Albert Road, Gurnard, according to posts on social media.

Cars and home set on fire in night of violence in Christchurch

A man was reported to have taken some car keys from the property and stolen a car from the driveway.

Later on in the evening, the car was found in Place Road, Cowes, and a male was seen acting suspiciously in the area.

A spokesperson for the Hampshire Constabulary said: "We can confirm that officers were called out to a series of linked incidents.

"(This followed) reports of burglary, criminal damage and theft of a motor vehicle at a number of properties across the Island, including in Yarmouth, Shalfleet, Calbourne, Gurnard and Cowes."

Police enquiries remain ongoing at this time.
