FILMING is underway on the new Netflix series being shot in Poole.
Last week, the Daily Echo revealed that a new 10-part miniseries for the DC franchise was being filmed at the Poole beauty spot for a Netflix programme to be aired in 2022.
Although staff on site are keeping the name of the series close to their chest, a crew member on location was seen wearing a hoodie with “The Batman Locations Department” on the back.
Whilst The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson, is a film rather than a TV series which is to be released on March 4 2022, Netflix hold the rights for Gotham, a spin off series from the popular DC franchise Batman.
Due to a change in the production schedule because of the weather, filming had been moved from Sandbanks beach to another location, a cul-de-sac called Avalon in Poole.
Staff on location at Sandbanks say that Wednesday, March 31 is expected to be a hectic day as actors and 130 extras are to descend onto Sandbanks beach for a large seafront scene for the TV series.
A member of staff based at Sandbanks car park said: “Wednesday is the main day for filming down here.
“They had to change around locations due to the weather, so they are filming at another location today and tomorrow.
“On Wednesday there will be lots going on. There will be around 130 extras down here so hopefully the weather will be good for then.”
The southern end of Sandbanks car park has been taken over by the production company, with around 40 lorries and vans parked alongside a large marquee which was erected on Thursday March 25.
Speculation on which DC miniseries is being filmed continues to grow as staff on site said they were unable to disclose the programme being filmed.
The DC franchise is estimated to be worth over $5 billion, having produced blockbuster films such as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman in recent years.
Hollywood A-list actors and actresses who have starred in DC films include Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Ewan McGregor and Chris Pine.
Several DC superhero TV series are currently in are currently in development are Peacemaker, Gotham, Green Lantern and Justice League.
The Avalon cul-de-sac is closed from 7am to 7pm from Monday March 29 to Wednesday March 31 whilst takes place.
Vans and gazebos were parked on the road, with several security guards overseeing operations on the filming location off the B3369Sandbanks Road.
People were seen coming and going from the site, with minibuses and vans continuously taking people between the two designated filming locations.
A security guard on site said: “I can’t say anything about it. We have all signed a document saying we can’t discuss it with anyone, but it’s a big budget TV show that is going on big platform.”
“Wednesday is going to be a big day, there will be lots of people about.
“I am looking forward to Wednesday but now it is just a bit boring. They are running up and down this road. For some reason, they really like this road.”
