A DRIVER arrested after a cyclist suffered serious injuries in a collision has been released by police.

The Renault Clio driver was detained on suspicion of motoring offences following a collision with a cyclist on the B3081 near the turning to Alderholt on Monday night.

The cyclist, a 50-year-old man from Ringwood was taken to Southampton Hospital with critical injuries.

Police have now confirmed his condition is serious but is no longer considered to be life-threatening.

Inquiries are continuing into the accident and the driver, a man in his 30s from Hampshire, remains under investigation.

The road was closed to allow emergency services to deal with the incident and for a detailed examination of the scene to take place.
