A CONVENIENCE store has decided not to stock disposable barbecues after the devastating heath fire in Wareham last year.
Costcutter & The Food Shop Swanage confirmed it would not be stocking disposable barbecues as it did not want to be responsible for any potential fires.
A statement from the shop said: “In light of last year’s forest and heath fires we have taken the decision not to stock disposable barbecues this year.
“Whilst we recognise that the majority of people would use them in a safe manner, we would not want a barbecue sold by us to be the reason for any potential fires in our beautiful countryside.”
Last May, hundreds of firefighters worked around the clock to tackle a blaze which destroyed around 200 hectares of heath and woodland in Wareham.
The fire, believed to be started by a disposable barbecue, started on May 18 and crews were on the scene for 13 successive days before it was extinguished.
