Teachers at Carter Community School in Hamworthy were delighted to welcome their students back for the Summer Term today – the first with its new name: The Cornerstone Academy.
The new name which was chosen in consultation with students, staff and parents signifies how the school puts academic excellence at the heart of everything it does. The new name has been launched to coincide with the opening of the school’s brand new buildings which students moved into at the end of last term.
To reflect the new name, a specially engraved stone has been positioned in front of the new buildings. There are no changes to the uniform.
Welcoming students back for the first day of term, Ms Sam Davidson, Principal of The Cornerstone Academy, said:
“It’s great to welcome all our students back today for what we hope will be a more normal term. Whilst our ethos of ambition, determination, resilience, enthusiasm, creativity and respect remains very much the same, our new name signals a new chapter in the life of our school. We are hugely ambitious for our students and are determined to give them the skills and knowledge they need to move on to the next stage of their education.
“Now that we are settled into our fantastic new buildings, we can start to unlock all the incredible learning opportunities they offer and enhance the school experience for all our students. I am very excited about what the future holds for The Cornerstone Academy!”
