HUNDREDS of people have reacted to the news of Co-op’s campaign to promote safer use of instant barbecues.
Co-op’s campaign comes after devastation caused at Wareham Forest last year, which is believed to be a result of an instant barbecue.
Last May, hundreds of firefighters worked around the clock to tackle a blaze which destroyed around 200 hectares of heath and woodland in Wareham.
The fire started on May 18 and crews were on the scene for 13 successive days before it was extinguished.
And many Daily Echo readers have reacted to the news, some suggesting that all disposable barbecues should be banned.
All barbecues should be banned, they don't just cause forest fires, they cause a hell of a lot of pollution. It used to be ok when they was one or two, but now every summer there are thousands all over the country.
Nothing wrong with taking a lunch on a day out there is absolutely no need to have a barbecue, do that at home or designated areas. Ban the disposable ones for the safety of people and nature.
All barbecues disposable or not should be banned from all public land.
People have no idea of how to control any sort of flame, used to be that most kids were in the cubs and guides and were taught about campfires.
I think proper education of children on the use and dangers of fire should be compulsory instead.
Yes, they should be banned and maybe supermarkets, i.e. Tesco and Asda and Sainsbury’s should not sell them.
Careless people should be banned. Don’t make decent people suffer because of them.
Should be banned everywhere. I have seen the devastation that out-of-control fires can do, be it in Australia where throwing a cigarette butt out of a car window can kill.
Yes, banned on beaches and in wooded areas but if people choose to use them at home, then that’s their choice.
Yes, too many irresponsible people using them, unfortunately. Spoils it for the responsible among us.
Should definitely be banned in public areas, use at home if you must.
