IN 2015 the Scottish Parliament lowered the voting age to 16.

However it is still against the law in Scotland to report any details that could lead to the identity of a juvenile offender under the age of 18 being made public.

Which means that 16 year olds are deemed old enough and wise enough to vote, but are protected from being identified if they commit a crime for another two years.

We can only hope that if, as seems increasingly likely, the voting age in England is lowered to 16, the age at which the identity of juvenile offenders can be made public, is lowered to 16 also.
