Then our Pub of the Week, The Langton Arms, is the pub for you.

The Langton Arms pub

Based in Tarrant Monkton near Blandford Forum, the pub is, according to its owners, a "really good example of a great British pub".

The pub is owned and run by farmers Barbara and James Cossins, who bought the pub about 30 years ago.

Barbara said: "All those years ago as young farmers we would meet at a local pub, and when The Langton Arms was going to be seized by Barclays, we bought it, knowing nothing about the pub trade. It was definitely a steep learning curve."

Since that day, the pair have built up their business and created an environment customers love.

Barbara said: "We want to champion British farmers, especially as I am a farmer’s daughter and wife.

"The Langton Arms is a really good example of a great British pub. We have real ale, a thatched roof and we’re right next to the church; it is very rural. We specialise in good British food with occasional twists.

"We grow and rear our own animals, and we opened our own butchery. We only put our own beef animals on the menu. I don’t want to waste any of the animal that has given its life to us, so we always have steak pie, lasagne, a burger or something similar on the menu so it is not wasted.

"We dry age our beef on the bone for 28 days plus, which gives it an amazing taste and tenderness."

The pub reopened only for the third time in the last year on Saturday, May 1, although Barbara closed it again on Bank Holiday Monday due to the poor weather.

Despite the challenges faced, Barbara is feeling optimistic about the future of The Langton Arms.

She said: "We’re desperate to be able to let our customers inside, it is so cold. We invested heavily into some gazebos for the garden, but you can’t keep chucking money at it during this time. You’ve got to sit it out sometimes.

"I’m positive we’re going to have a nice summer and that people will want to support the pub industry. Hopefully people will want to give some love to small businesses and not supermarkets. It has been terribly challenging, but we have our shop and butchers which helps."

No big plans for the pub have yet been made for the future, but Barbara hopes they can host small events, as well as the wedding ceremonies/receptions of those who have had to postpone.
