AN internal investigation is still ongoing to determine any misconduct proceedings nearly two months after two student Dorset Police officers were fined for repeatedly breaching Covid-19 regulations.
A number of off-duty student Dorset Police officers met in the grounds of Ferndown Forest Golf Club on Tuesday, March 9, in breach of Covid-19 legislation.
The force said they were advised to leave which they did, however an investigation found two officers head repeatedly breached the rules throughout the day and they were both issued with £200 fixed penalty notices.
After the incident, Dorset Police said an internal investigation was underway to consider any misconduct proceedings.
Providing an update, a spokesperson said the investigation was still ongoing.
It was also alleged that a Ferndown business was involved in the sale of alcohol, in breach of Covid-19 legislation.
The spokesperson added: “An independent review of this matter was carried out by the force’s licensing team who visited the premises and highlighted some areas of concern.
“These were immediately addressed and no further reports of breaches have been received. This supports the 4Es approach we have utilised throughout Covid-19 and continue to deliver in line with the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions.”
Assistant chief constable Sam de Reya said: “Police officers have been tasked throughout the Covid-19 pandemic with enforcing the legislation to stop the spread of the virus and keep people safe.
“The force and the public rightly expect the highest standards of professional behaviour from officers and staff, including the strict adherence to the regulations.
“It is extremely disappointing that on this occasion these two officers have fallen short of that expectation.
“We require officers and staff to uphold the law and operate with integrity at all times and it is right that they will have to pay a financial penalty like any other member of the public.”
